Jim Feldkamp

Jim Feldkamp's journey began in Roseburg, Oregon, where he was born, and later embarked on a path that led him to the U.S. Navy. He graduated with a BS in Business from Oregon State University. His naval career saw him taking to the skies as a Naval Flight Officer, where he specialized in counter-measures and navigation aboard the EA-6B, a critical electronic attack aircraft. His service during significant operations like Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991, notably on the USS Midway, marked the beginning of a distinguished military tenure.

Following his active service, Jim transitioned to the U.S. Naval Reserves and soon after embarked on a new chapter with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Norfolk, Virginia. Here, he was instrumental in founding the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force and also served as one of the specialized pilots overseeing aerial surveillance operations. His commitment to national security took a political turn in 2004 when he resigned from the FBI to pursue a congressional seat in Oregon's District 4 as a Republican, a quest he undertook during both the 2004 and 2006 election cycles.

Feldkamp’s recall to active duty in 2007 saw him play a pivotal role in establishing the office that would evolve into the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO). Beyond his naval and investigative roles, he has been an adjunct professor at multiple prestigious universities, including George Washington University, George Mason University, and Georgetown University, sharing his extensive knowledge on domestic and international terrorism. He also contributed as an author and editor to the academic sphere, notably with the publication of "Theory and Politics of Terrorism" by Cognella Academic Publishing.

Beyond academia, his professional landscape is varied. Feldkamp leads as a consultant at Complete Threat Preparedness, Inc., providing expert training on security and emergency preparedness. His editorial skills are put to use at Reedsy, where he edits works on terrorism and intelligence. His adventurous spirit shone through during his time with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race from 2018 to 2022, and he has imparted knowledge on intelligence and terrorism as an adjunct professor at National American University. The foundation of JLF Solutions marked his continued commitment to security and counter-terrorism consulting.

In his role at the Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness, Jim was a crucial figure in maritime security, enhancing domain awareness and fostering international collaboration. His efforts significantly expanded the Maritime Safety and Security Information System (MSSIS), making maritime data more accessible and improving coastline security across vast distances.
